What is hospice care?

Hospice is a philosophy of care that treats the person rather than the disease and focuses on quality of life. It surrounds the patient and family with a team of professionals who address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Who pays for hospice care?

Hospice is 100% covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances for patients who meet eligibility requirements. There is no deductible and no copayment for Medicare-covered hospice.

Is hospice only for cancer patients?

No. While hospice originated with cancer patients, the majority of hospice patients today have other life-limiting illnesses such as end-stage heart, lung, or kidney disease, or Alzheimer's and other dementias.

Where can Spirit Hospice services be provided?

Services can be provided in the individual's home, long-term care or assisted living facility, skilled nursing facility, or any other appropriate setting across our 21-county service area in Georgia.

When is it time for hospice?

Signs that it may be time for hospice include frequent ER visits or hospital admissions, decline in ability to perform daily activities, progressive weight loss, changes in mental abilities, or a significant increase in falls.
